Releasing Coturnix Quail Into The Wild

March 19th, 2012

It’s springtime!  This time of year we receive numerous calls about raising and releasing coturnix quail.  Unfortunately coturnix quail so not survive well if released into the wild so we do not recommend them for release.

The best way to establish a quail population on your property or to increase the number of quail in your area is through increasing the quantity and quality of the quail habitat.  Habitat requirements include: food, water, shelter and space.  All four of these components, in the right mix, are required for survival.

A good place to begin your research for creating and improving wildlife habitat is on the National Wildlife Federation website:

Whether you are creating/improving a backyard, small land or large acreage habitat for wildlife the four components still apply.  Food.  Water.  Shelter.  Space.
